Wired microphones are used in rooms where table and seating arrangements tend to be static. They require a wired connection to an audio mixer located in an equipment rack. When considering using these, where to run the cable is a large concern.

There are two main options when using desktop microphones, Boundary and Gooseneck microphones. Each offer pros and cons that need to be considered.
