April 2012 Regional Distance Learning Meeting Minutes	In attendance: Doreen Pietrantoni, Shaun Dulen, Jeremiah Okal-Frink, Dana Bowers, Tina Jarvis, Mike Morris, Doug Streit, Yvonne Benson, Kevin Lydon, Glen Van Derwater News: Shared new podcast for Distance Learning – will be creating quarterly to highlight new tools, programs, collaborations. Link to latest: http://elearning.monroe.edu/node/1555 Distance Learning Opportunities are updated on the eLearning Site weekly http://elearning.monroe.edu Monroe #1 BOCES Library, Media, and Model Schools Spring/Summer Catalog Equipment Updates: · Traversal still working well, this allows outside sites to dial in and inside sites to dial out. · Bridge allows multiple sites to connect together (up to 12 sites) via SMARTBoards · Brigit “seats” must be reserved. · Bridgit allows multiple SMARTboards to connect together. This is also a free app for the iPad that works well. HOWEVER, we are still in BETA stages of testing the iPad app and Bridgit. · Adobe-Connect allows web-based conferencing and meeting. · We are in the early BETA stages of testing tablets to use as a DL tool. · eLearning Site has End Point Directory that lists every end point in districts. New Projects: Paralympics Legacy Video Conference - Distance learning connection with 2 Paralympian athletes from London England and possibly US Paralympian Coach. November 15th 9am-10am. New York Statewide Collaborations - Collaborations available to NYS classrooms Career Connection Video Conferences - Professionals throughout NYS will share about their jobs and careers. A new professional each month! Marketing Resources & Events: eLearning Collaborative Website - updated almost daily with collaborations and vendor provide connections for classrooms. 2013 Read Around the Planet - Participate in a celebration of reading using video conferencing. Paralympian Legacy Video Conference	Through the collaboration of Monroe #1 BOCES, London Borough of Redbridge, and NYSERNET the exciting Paralympian Legacy Video Conference was created. Two Rochester, New York classrooms connected with 5 London, England classrooms, and thousands of students watched via video streaming to learn from Paralympian athletes and coach. Ali Jawad (UK Power Lifter) and Susie Rodgers (UK Bronze Medal Swimmer) and a NYS Paralympian Swimming Coach Queenie Nichols to share their Paralypmpic experiences. The athletes and coach were able to discuss how hard work and dedication can overcome any obstacles. To learn more about Ali and Susie, click VCFL. To cap off the event, a pre-recorded video by the UK Minister for Schools and Families – Edward Timpson discussed the Paralympics and student learning through video conferencing. A video montage of the connection will be uploaded to this page after November 26th. The video conference curricular alignment is character education, career education, and diversity.
